AI tools for customer journey mapping — a working method

Search “AI tools for customer journey mapping” and you get another grid of logos. Here is a method that starts from the customer’s job instead.

The search result problem

Most pages titled “AI tools for customer journey mapping” are directories: forty vendors, five stars, an affiliate link. They answer “what exists”. They do not answer “what belongs on this moment of *our* journey”.

My AI Stack is built the other way around. The unit is the touchpoint — a place a customer is trying to finish a job — and the catalog only appears after that job is named.

A map you can actually run

  1. Pick one journey you already believe in (B2B sale, SME service, SaaS, agency engagement, ecommerce, or partner & channel).
  2. Walk the stages until you find the leak: unanswered questions, a stalled quote, a silent onboarding, a ticket pile.
  3. Name the touchpoint and the job in one sentence.
  4. Only then open the solutions catalog or the interactive map.

A content assistant belongs on organic content. A governed website agent belongs on website conversation. A helpdesk resolver belongs on support. Mixing those jobs is how stacks become Frankenstein.

What “mapping” is not

It is not a persona workshop that never reaches a purchase order. It is not an enterprise architecture review. It is a one-page brief: journey, stage, touchpoint, primary tool, fallback, owner.

If you need the canvas, start with the customer journeys. If you need the job list, start with touchpoints. If you are an agency or consultant, use the map in the room — then write the ownership into the SOW.
